Practices

GoPink!DC practices are held at 9:30 am on Saturday mornings, in the Anacostia Boat House, from the first week in April.  General practices are held Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm (7 pm, starting at the end of April). Practices are not held in extreme weather.

Where: The docks are located on Water St SE, at the base of 11th St SE, east of the Navy Yard.  Map

What to bring and what to wear: You should bring a water bottle. You may want to bring water-proof gloves, but they’re not essential. It's best to wear layers because it does get colder on the water than on land. The best materials are nylon or quick drying synthetics because paddlers do get wet from all the splashing of paddles on the water. Wool is also good when it’s cold because it will still keep you warm when wet. Cotton tends to be cold when wet. In sunny weather a cap with a brim and/or sunglasses can be helpful. The important thing though is to just wear something comfortable. Some of us bring dry clothes just in case there's a lot of splashing.

What the Paddling Club Provides: We have paddles and life jackets available, and of course, the dragon boats.

Weather:  We don’t paddle on the water when there’s thunder or lightening, or when the combined water and air temperature is less than 1000 F. In those conditions we’ll move our practice indoors at the boathouse and do indoor technique drills, weight training, and training on the erg paddling simulator.
