HISTORY
GoPink!DC is the Washington, DC area's first dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors and their supporters. GoPink!DC was formed four years ago by two NIH scientists, one of whom is an avid dragon boat athlete who competes in international competitions. He became aware of the rapidly growing number of dragon boat teams of breast cancer survivors on all continents. For many breast cancer survivors, dragon boat racing has come to signify support for breast cancer awareness and to provide hope for survivors that there is high quality of life after breast cancer. We are based out of the Anacostia Community Boathouse close to the Navy Yard and the Nationals Stadium in Southeast Washington, DC.
MISSION
GoPink!DC, under the National Capital Area Women’s Paddling Association (NCAWPA), a 501 (c)(3) organization, exists to improve the quality of life of breast cancer survivors by increasing mobility, fitness, and mental health through participation in the activity of dragon boat paddling. Anyone can participate in dragon boat paddling, regardless of age, current level of fitness, or income.
