HISTORY
GoPink!DC is the Washington, DC area's first dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors and their supporters. GoPink!DC was formed in 2006 by two NIH scientists, one of whom is GoPink!DC's head coach, and an avid dragon boat athlete who competes in international competitions. He had become aware of the rapidly growing number of dragon boat teams of breast cancer survivors on all continents. For many breast cancer survivors, dragon boat racing has come to signify support for breast cancer awareness and to provide hope for survivors that there is high quality of life after breast cancer. We are based along the Anacostia River, just east of Capitol Hill, adjacent to the historic Seafarers Yacht Club.
GoPink!DC, under the National Capital Area Women’s Paddling Association (NCAWPA), a 501 (c)(3) organization, exists to improve the quality of life of breast cancer survivors by increasing mobility, fitness, and mental health through participation in the activity of dragon boat paddling. Anyone can participate in dragon boat paddling, regardless of age, current level of fitness, or income. WHY WE PADDLE Our dragon boat experience is helping our healing:
